MULTI FARM PROJECT

Generating income to become financially independent

In order to provide enough care and attention to our children in the centers, Florence Home Foundation needs sustainable incomes.

In 2000, the construction of a farm in the village of Veerapar, has been the first step of FHF towards activities which will enable it to become financially independent.

The financing of this project came from Emmaus International. In 2001 various fruit trees producing guava and sapota, and various ornamental trees were planted. A tractor was purchased in 2002.

The cowshed got filled in 2003, when the Foundation purchased 10 cows. In 2004 6 pigs, goats and a hundred of chickens were bought. FHF wanted its farm to work towards organic farming.

The first crop, consisting in 75 kg of guava and 15 kg of sapota arrived in 2004. The fish ponds produced 25 kg of fish and the cows gave 25 liters of milk per day.Today all the products of FHF's farm are 100% organic. The income generated by the farm is used to cover the running costs of the Children Home: food, clothing, school expenses, warden and cook.

The Veerapar farm has also a guest house with 6 rooms, with all the necessary accommodations.
